Currently, the roles of women and men are rapidly changing, equalizing the positions of both sexes in society. However, the woman was an object that the man was looking at, in other words, the woman was a sight to behold. A man took the place of the beholder, being an artist or owner of a nude painting. Men and women in the works of European art had different positions. However, later working as a photographer I often received orders for a nude-style photo session.įrom the time of Adam and Eve, a woman was punished and subjugated to a man, and a man became a representative of God. At the university, we often painted the naked bodies of antique statues. In both cases, I had to work with nudity. After graduation, I professionally worked as a photographer. I was a student at the University of Architecture in my hometown. I had my own experience working with nude, but not as a model, but as a painter. At the same time, nude is to expose oneself to the viewer, i.e. To be naked means to be yourself, without any mask. According to Berger, nakedness and nude are completely different concepts. Over time, these conventions have changed and nakedness of Adam and Eve transformed into a kind of game with the audience. While I looked at the woman's reflection, I saw that the mirror was a very dark purple and black, indicating that the room behind her was dark.Women were a constant recurring plot in European oil painting. For example, outside of the window is very light so there are many shades of yellow and white used to represent that, while the room that the woman is in is actually very dark. To experience this demystification for myself, I faced hundreds of paintings and began this process by choosing a painting by Edward Richard Miller, titled Sunbath. Berger claims that the way to demystify and make these paintings speak is to learn to ask "the right questions of the past" (167). When interpreting paintings, it is important that the silence is removed so that the viewer is no longer mystified by the silence and stillness and is able to successfully form a relationship with the artwork. However, to demystify and interpret a meaning depends on what questions the painting is approached with in order to turn a silent painting into one that intrigues the viewer and entices conversation. Art is mystified, meaning that it is impossible to understand art and know its history without also understanding the present, and that whatever we see corresponds to our perspective and what we previously know about our art experiences. Art tends to be a pleasure that one must interpret for themselves by getting the art to speak. In John Berger's "Ways of Seeing," he discusses the mystification of art.
